INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES

International Student Services provides immigration advising to ensure that foreign nationals maintain proper immigration status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and compliance operations for Wartburg College. The director also seeks to promote global understanding through campus and community outreach. ISS provides a new international student orientation run in conjunction with new student orientation, material support, and advising on employment, Social Security, health insurance, and cross-cultural communication.  Additionally, International Student Services coordinates the Friendship Family program, which pairs local families with international students, and Global Connections, a student-led initiative to increase cultural competence throughout Wartburg’s campus.

The Director of International Student Services serves as the advisor for the International Club and assists in coordinating Wartburg’s annual Culture Week. The International Club promotes cross-cultural awareness and understanding among both U.S. and international students.  With dozens of countries represented on the Wartburg campus, International Club members strive to learn more about each other and showcase their cultures through campus and community events.  All students are invited to participate in the club.

The International Friendship Family Program at Wartburg College connects students from around the world with local families.  Each new student that arrives on the Wartburg campus is introduced to a family in the community that has shown an interest in helping international students adjust to American culture.  The Friendship Family Program is a great way for students to build a support system in the Waverly community, as well as a great way for local families to expand their cultural horizons.  Friendship families and their students meet throughout the year to share meals and participate in a variety of activities that help international students learn more about the “daily life” of an American family.

If you would like to learn more about the Friendship Family Program, please view the brochure for additional details.  If you are an individual or family who is interested in being matched with an international student, we encourage you to complete the Friendship Family Interest Form and submit it to lindsay.bienemann@wartburg.edu.
